EAServer Dev 6.2 very slow when publishing PB components

Hello,
I have moved from EAServer 5.5 to 6.2 Developer experiencing
significant slowness during deployment of PB components,
about 100 times slower!
Moreover, the deployment of a component works only the first
time, then I have to delete the component from the Console.
Third, after patching 6.2 with the EBF, the HTML Console
does not work any more.
Many thanks,
M.

Hi Marco;

My version 6.2 EAS's running on XP and Vista do not have these problems.

When you installed, did you upgrade and migrate the 5.5 repository or
install a fresh 6.2?

Yes, I am as well ... 11.5.1 to be exact. Installing a fresh copy should
have your repository in good shape. If you had migrated I would of been
concerned.

However, with the new LWT architecture it does take a little longer to
deploy (maybe 2-3x). I do not have to delete the previous version of the
component though - my deployments always work.

BTW: Did you turn on the PB Component automatic clean-up feature?

For what it's worth, I too have experienced some of the same problems.
- Deployment of PB components (from PB 11.2) is decidedly slow, slow as in
several minutes for a moderate sized deployment
- I was initially running on Vista (bad move) and had the issue with not
being able to redeploy. I changed the permissions of the EAServer folder
and that took care of the issue. That said, Vista is such a pig that I
finally gave up and bought a new XP laptop (Toshiba refuses to release XP
drivers for my previous laptop, and when I tried XP on it, the machine would
only run for a few minutes before it overheats and shuts down).
- The base release of EA-Server 6.2 runs well on my server, however, when I
applied EBF-16198 I ran into the issue of the HTML Console failing. I
flushed the installation and went back to the base release of 6.2 and all is
well (sort of).

I hope this helps a bit.

We are migrating our PB10.5/EAS5.2 application to PB11.5/EAS6.2.
- We also encountered the broken Management Console after application
of EBF 16459 and Sybase provided a pre-release EBF that resolves this
problem.
- We are finding development on EAS 6.2 to be quite frustrating.
Previous versions of EAS we would deploy and then test. With version
6.2 we need to deploy, delete EJBs, bring down the EAS service,
regenerate EJBs, bring up the EAS server and test. Generally when we
deploy we get a javac.exe compiler error which seems to mean the EJB
is not correctly created. Anyone encountered this issue?

Will,

Having to delete generated code, getting javac errors, or having to
restart the server in order to redeploy should be raised as bugs with
Technical Support. It is not expected behaviour in 6.X.

Thanks for the reply Evan, good to know its not normal behaviour.

We have logged this issue with Sybase Tech Support. Hopefully they
can sort the problem before we go crazy.

Quick question - do you need any particular capability of 6.2 vs. 5.5, or
are you just trying to keep current?

Quick update. A lot of our problems seem to have been solved by
installing EAS to c:\sybase instead of C:\program files\sybase.
Thinking the space in the program files was too much too handle.
Havent seen a javac.exe error since reinstalling.

It was felt that moving to EAS 6.2 better positioned us for an
upcoming project that will leverage our existing PB component
functionality using different technologies such as Java and .Net. If
we didnt have this upcoming project we would probably have moved to
5.5 in the short term.
